Cleanroom Infrastructure Engineer

Overview

You will work within an engineering team on the cleanroom (ransomware recovery) environment, supporting, designing, implementing, automating and testing IT infrastructure components and engineering applications. The focus is on rapidly developing services for ransomware protection and recovery. You will deliver and maintain a largely autonomous environment that, in the event of a successful ransomware attack on the bank, enables speedy recovery of affected systems into ring-fenced environments for analysis, malware cleansing and rapid return to production. You will protect and recover both application data and infrastructure configuration data; security and extensive automation are core elements of the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Support, design, implement, automate and test infrastructure components and engineering applications for ransomware protection and recovery.
• Deliver and maintain an autonomous cleanroom environment to allow recovery of multiple systems into ring-fenced analysis and remediation zones.
• Protect and recover application data and infrastructure configuration data.
• Support, develop and optimize security and recovery for compute, converged, storage, backup and archive environments at scale (c.21,000 VMs and nearly 20 PB of data across regions).
• Provide day-to-day support for the cleanroom environment, including incident, problem and change management.
• Ensure systems comply with security standards and lifecycle/vulnerability management within the cleanroom.
• Engineer practical, supportable and performant solutions and act as part of a small expert team to build and operate the cleanroom as an autonomous bootstrap environment.
• Work across multiple supporting technologies and regional environments as required.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven hands-on experience as a solution or infrastructure engineer.
• Experience with large VMware environments.
• Strong understanding of networking (firewall, DNS, networking concepts).
• Security mindset with knowledge of MFA, network segmentation, authentication and authorisation.
• Azure cloud expertise.
• Understanding of backup solutions and immutable technologies.
